KEY EVENTS SO FAR
Pellegrini: Hands off Aguero
Manuel Pellegrini has issued a ‘hands-off’ warning to Real Madrid over star striker Sergio Aguero.
Real’s transfer ban, imposed by FIFA, has led to fears the Spanish giants will stockpile players in this month’s window.
City striker Aguero is wanted by Real, but boss Pellegrini warned the La Liga club they will be wasting their time trying to lure him.
And Pellegrini said Aguero can achieve everything he want in his career at City, without the need to move to Spain.
Asked if he feared a Real bid for Aguero, Pellegrini said: “I don’t talk about those things as you never know what will happen.
“I don’t know what will happen in that case [Real Madrid’s]. It will not be easy for those clubs [Atletico Madrid as well], especially as they are always clubs that wants to buy top players.
“We’re thinking just in this moment in what we must do now and not what will happen in the market in the future.
“I think this is a club that wants to be at the same level [as Real]. I think that we are improving every year in achievements, in the way the club is growing, in every department.
“Real Madrid has a long and important history, of being a big club for so many years, but I’m sure that this club is doing it in the correct way.”
Pardew: Palace are interested in Adebayor
Alan Pardew has admitted that Crystal Palace are considering signing Emmanuel Adebayor.
The controversial Togo striker has been a free agent since Tottenham cancelled his contract in September but Palace boss Pardew has confirmed Mirror Football’s exclusive revelation that Adeabayor is on his list of January targets.
Palace have failed to score in four Premier League games – with none of their specialist centre-forwards having scored a league goal from open play this season.
And Pardew said: “Adebayor is a player that is there for somebody and it is a question of ourselves wondering wheter we are the right club for him is and whether he is the right player for us. It’s something that is in our mix.
“You want to try and bring in a quality player and so therefore you can’t dismiss anyone or you can’t not think about all the strikers that are possibly available. Because 90 per cent of them are not available, they’re at clubs and they’re on good contracts and the clubs want them because they are successful.
“There are not many who have not been in the first team. It is a very, very small market for us and we are focusing on that.
“So he (Adebayor) is in that group. Not just for us but many teams in the Premier League to wonder whether that is something you can do a deal with.”
Norwich set to confirm Godfrey
Norwich City are set to announce the signing of Bed Godfrey from York City - but another target may not be joining.
France Under-21 striker Sebastien Haller is keeping his options open.
Ramires could leave Chelsea
Chelsea midfielder Ramires could seek a move away from Stamford Bridge this month.
According to reports in Brazil, the 28-year-old has grown frustrated at his lack of first-team opportunities at the club in recent months.
He has started just seven Premier League games all season and appears to have fallen behind John Obi Mikel in the midfield pecking order since the arrival of Guus Hiddink.
Ramires, who is under contract at the club until 2009, is willing to listen to offers from sides who could offer him more playing time.
Borussia Dortmund are believed to be among the sides monitoring the situation.
Shelvey hits out at Swansea fans
Jonjo Shelvey has accused Swansea fans of “getting on his back” as he was frozen out of their team.
Newcastle’s January signing was told by Swansea that he “didn’t suit their style” and was this week sold for £12 million.
Shelvey today described himself as “excited” to be on Tyneside, and explained why he was kicked out of Swansea.
He has denied that he had a “bad attitude”, and admitted he needed a fresh start at St James’s Park.
Shelvey said: “It is good to be here and I am excited. I have been welcomed with open arms. It is a passionate city and I will fit in here the way I play.
“I want game time. I was told I didn’t suit the style of Swansea’s play by the manager. I never once asked to leave. I wasn’t going to play, wasn’t getting my chance and I needed a new challenge. I was lucky a massive club showed interest in me. It is going to be Swansea’s loss in the end.

York sign Hull midfielder
York City have signed Matty Dixon from Hull on a permanent deal.
The 21-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on an 18-month contract.
Sunday Mirror campaign: 1966 World Cup heroes deserve knighthoods
Speaking of signings - why not sign the Sunday Mirror’s petition to get our 1966 World Cup heroes knighted...
We want all our 1966 World Cup heroes to be knighted in the year that marks the 50th anniversary of England’s famous win.
And it’s an idea that has already torn into the back of the net like that Geoff Hurstrocket in the last seconds of extra time, with a host of sporting stars coming forward to back our quest.
Like us, they believe that ALL of Sir Alf Ramsey’s legendary team should receive official recognition for their success – and be made Sirs themselves.
Up to now only Geoff and Bobby Charlton have been given knighthoods.
Our Knight The Lions Appeal aims to secure the honour for the other seven surviving players from that glorious July afternoon – many of whom are now suffering in old age from severe ill health.
And leading the line of stars backing this quest last night was England goalscoring legend Gary Lineker who said: “There is a huge appetite to have them knighted.
“It would be a great gesture to a great bunch of guys who have given so much. What they did was a wonderful achievement.”
How can you help?

Monaco VP explains why they didn't want Falcao back
Monaco’s vice president has revealed why the Ligue 1 club have rejected the chance to take Radamel Falcao back from his loan at Chelsea.
Vadim Vasilyev says the club were considering bringing him back - but that injury ended any chance of that happening.
“It’s true that we’ve talked about Falcao on numerous occasions. The original idea was that he would return to Monaco to play the second half of the season.
“He came over and had a medical. Unfortunately, he was injured. So we took the decision that it would be better for him to stay with Chelsea.
“Could he return one day? I won’t close the door, that door remains open.”
Saivet and Shelvey speak
Saivet: “The head coach wants to use me as a cm at the moment. They put together an entire film on me which gave me confidence.”
Shelvey: “It’s down to me now. The penny has got to drop now & I need to press on. I’ve been at Liverpool and I’d put Newcastle in that category.
“I’m a very fortunate boy to be here at a massive club. I’m lucky to find a club in Newcastle that have faith in me.”
Newcastle's new boys meet the media
Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet are being presented to the media, we’ll bring you quotes as they come in.
Morecambe sign Luke Conlan
It’s the big one you’ve all been waiting for.
Morecambe have signed Luke Conlan on a one-month loan deal from Burnley.
Martinez confirms Byram approach
Everton manager Roberto Martinez have confirmed the club’s approach for Sam Byram.
MirrorFootball revealed the Toffees had had a £3m bid accepted by Leeds, and the Spaniard has now confirmed the story.
“As you can imagine there has been an approach,” Martinez said. “That’s where the confirmation came from Leeds United, but there is nothing else to comment on.
“At the moment you have to be very, very careful. There has been an initial approach - an initial step - but from there to having conclusive news for our fans is a long gap still.”
Cambridge sign Williamson
Gillingham have confirmed the departure of Ben Williamson to Cambridge United.
The striker joins the U’s for an undisclosed fee after just seven months at the League One side. His recent loan spell at the Abbey was successful - scoring three in eight - and manager Shaun Derry has moved quickly to secure the 27 year old’s services.
Garde has targets - but won't reveal them
Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has revealed that he has January transfer targets - but refused to say who they are.
Garde won his first match as Villa manager when his side beat Crystal Palace this week, but they’re still firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.
New signings are almost certainly needed to drag Villa out of the relegation places, and Garde says he has identified the (presumably numerous) weaknesses in his side.
“The board know what I want,” said Garde. “I have been here for two months and identified the strengths and weaknesses here. I haven’t signed players yet but there is still time to go but it’s useless for me - and won’t help me - to talk about individual targets.”
Aubameyang: I (still) don't want to go to Arsenal
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reiterated his desire to stay at Dortmund, despite rumours linking him with Arsenal.
The Gabon international has been in sensational form this season, scoring 24 goals in 23 appearances - and he feels the Bundesliga is still the best place for him.
“I still want to achieve lots with Dortmund,” the striker told Bild. “I am here and nowhere else - not at Arsenal, not at Barcelona, not on the moon - you can see that.”
PSG want Neymar, not Ronaldo
Paris Saint-Germain have switched summer targets after their chances of signingCristiano Ronaldo evaporated with Real Madrid’s transfer ban.
Or so claim L’Equipe, France’s biggest-selling sports daily.
The Parisians are set to lose star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer, with his contract expiring in June and no prospect of a renewal.
Cristiano Ronaldo has long been the desire of president Nasser El-Khelaifi as his replacement, and the Portuguese superstar has done nothing to dampen talk byrepeatedly changing tack in public comments over his future.
But with Real Madrid’s transfer ban set to ground any significant departures from the club, the French giants have reportedly already switched their sights.
Looking to take advantage of Neymar’s off-the-pitch troubles with the tax man, Paris Saint-Germain are willing to unload big sums of money to secure the Brazilian.
“Paris searches for its star” reads the front page of L’Equipe, just days after PSG defender Thiago Silva had commented that Barcelona were more likely to sell Lionel Messi than Neymar, with the Brazil skipper destined to become football’s biggest star.
Blackburn sign Jackson
Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Simeon Jackson on a short term deal.
The 28-year-old has signed until the end of the current season.
“It feels great to be here,” said Jackson. “It has been a good two weeks coming in and getting a feel for the club, so I’m delighted to finally put pen-to-paper now.”
Lacazette: I'm ready to move to the Premier League
Alexandre Lacazette has admitted that he is ready to move to the Premier League.
The Lyon front man has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool for some time with Newcastle the latest team on these shores to be credited with interest.
And now, while admitting a move this month is not on the cards, a transfer away from his homeland in the summer could well be.
“Yes, I am thinking about it and the Premier League is very attractive for a player,” Lacazette explains. “But I know that to go there I have to do well this season. So I am very concentrated on doing well and maybe, after that, I will go there,” he told the Telegraph.
Elneny could face Stoke
New Arsenal signing Mohamed Elneny could be thrown straight into the Gunners’ squad to face Stoke.
Manager Arsene Wenger revealed the Egyptian was fit and he would now make a decision regarding whether or not to include him in the squad.
“He’s available for selection for Sunday,” said Wenger.
The Frenchman added: “He’s a defensive midfielder who can contribute in an area that we are short.
“He is a promising player. I expect him to develop with us into a very strong player. He can defend and attack.”
Wenger: Madrid transfer ban will be overturned
Arsene Wenger has dismissed the suggestion that Real Madrid will be prevented from signing players this summer.
The Spanish giants, along with rivals Atletico Madrid, have been hit with a transfer ban that will come into effect in June, and still be in place next January.
That led many to claim Real Madrid will go on a spending spree while they are still able to register new signings.
Arsenal’s manager, though, believes the ban will be overturned easily.
“I thought that [they would sign players now] at first when I heard the news,” said Wenger. “[But] they will appeal, they will cancel the ban and they will be allowed to buy in the next two transfer windows.
“That’s what will happen.”
Byram set for Leeds appearance - despite Everton bid
Sam Byram is set to play for Leeds against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow - despite Everton agreeing a £3.7million fee for him.
Leeds boss Steve Evans wants Byram in his squad and Everton manager Roberto Martinez is relaxed about him playing at Hillsborough.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Sam is a Leeds United player. That is why I never agree with the window being open while teams have got important games. We will see what develops over the weekend. “There is nothing concrete. It is still in the early stages and everything will develop over the next few days. “It is looking more like Monday before anything else happens. We have a good relationship with Leeds and we will be allowed to speak to the player.”
Evans said: “If nothing is concluded with Sam today, then I will seek with the president if I can have him in our team tomorrow.”
West Ham and Newcastle are also keen and Martinez is aware the deal is not done yet. “I would say there is, yes.”
He said. “He is a young man with a lot of experience of the Championship but his next step needs to be a good step for Sam and his family. It is not going to happen overnight. As a football club we’ve done everything we can do so far in registering our interest.”
Will Wenger dip into the transfer market again?
The Arsenal boss didn’t exactly answer the question.
“If you gave me the choice, I’d prefer to have my injured players back.”
Danny Welbeck is two-three weeks away. That would suggest he’ll wait until he’s back and not make a move.
Middlesbrough ready to rival Bologna for Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez
Middlesbrough are ready to rival Bologna for Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez.
Championship leaders Boro want Ramirez, 25, to bolster their promotion push as they bid to end their seven-year absence from the Premier League.
But Bologna also have Ramirez, who is out of contract in the summer, in their sights and want to bring him back to the club he served between 2010 and 2012.
Bologna’s manager Marco Di Vaio played alongside Uruguyan Ramirez during his two years in Italy and said: “I already called Ramirez once, in agreement with the club, to see how he was and ask what he wanted to do in future, seeing as we’d like to begin negotiations.
More Wenger on Elneny
Arsene Wenger has been discussing his signing of Mohamed Elneny again.
“He can contibute in an area where we’re short,” he told the press moments ago.
“He has played three years in Switzerland and I expect him to develop into a strong player for us.”
Will he play against Stoke on Sunday?
“He’s available for selection this weekend.”
Bees set to lose Jota
Brentford midfielder Jota is set to join Eibar on an 18-month loan deal.
The Spaniard was a big hit in his debut season at Griffin Park but has struggled this term due to injury.
Jota is keen to return to Spain due to personal reasons and the Bees have agreed to let him rejoin Eibar, where he spent a successful stint on loan before his switch to England.
Brentford have the option to recall the 24-year-old in the summer and to extend his contract at the Championship club by a further 12 months.
Arsenal gossip: Morata a target following transfer ban?
Arsenal could move to sign Spanish striker Alvaro Morata on the back of Real Madrid’s transfer ban.
Morata joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2014 but the Bernabeu club inserted a buy-back clause in his contract which would’ve allowed them to re-sign him for £22million last summer or £26million this summer.
However, they won’t be allowed to excercise that option after they were hit with a transfer ban for the 2016 summer window and 2017 January window.
Morata starred for Juve last season but has started just eight Serie A games this season and could be allowed to leave.
The Sun claim Arsene Wenger was keen on the striker in 2014 and could reignite his interest in the summer.
Liverpool and Man Utd to battle for Ajax man?
Liverpool and Manchester United will battle for the signature of Ajax winger Anwar El Ghazi, according to reports in Italy.
The 20-year-old is highly rated in the Netherlands and AC Milan are also said to be interested in his signature.
Italian outlet Tuttosport claim El Ghazi is rated at £8million by Ajax.
He has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract with the Eredivisie club.
Everton set to sign Byram
Everton have beaten West Ham to the signing of Sam Byram after having a £3million bid accepted by Leeds.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez had Byram watched against Ipswich on Tuesday by his chief European scout Ian Atkins and has swooped for the highly-rated 22-year-old.
Leeds were keen to sell Byram now rather than lose him on a Bosman in the summer and he had refused their offer of a new deal.
The initial fee is £3million plus another £1million in add-ons.
The transfer has yet to be finalised and Byram can expect a hike on his current £12,000-a-week salary at Elland Road.
West Ham were also interested in Byram, who can play right-back or right midfield, but the Academy product preferred a move to Everton.
Man City sign Caceres
Manchester City have signed Anthony Caceres from Central Coast Mariners.
The deal was announced overnight. The A-League star is expected to be loaned out to City’s sister club Melbourne City.
Pereira: I may have to go out on loan
Andreas Pereira admits he may need to go out on loan from Manchester United to get more first-team action.
The Belgian-born Brazilian midfielder, 20, has made just two starts this season in the Capital One Cup.
When asked if he may need to leave on loan, he said: “Perhaps. We will see what happens. I want to stay here, of course, but you never know.”
Juventus eye Premier League striker
Southampton striker Graziano Pelle is a cut-price £5m summer target for Juventus.
It leaves Southampton boss Ronald Koeman facing a major battle to keep another one of his top stars at St Mary’s.
Italy international Pelle, 30, has only got one year left on his contract and Southampton will now try to offer him a new deal.
Italy international Pelle, 30, has only got one year left on his contract and Southampton will now try to offer him a new deal.
But Pelle may be attracted by a move to Serie A with Juventus clearly believing his contract situation may offer good value.
Pelle is aware of the interest and Southampton will be keen to keep him with Koeman increasingly concerned about the future of his top players.
Victor Wanyama is a summer target for Arsenal while Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are chasing Sadio Mane.
Berahino wanted by FIVE Premier League clubs
Claudio Ranieri wants to make Saido Berahino Leicester’s latest fox in the box as he bids to boost their surprise title challenge.
The Italian is prioritised a striker and a defender this month for his Premier League co-leaders and is ready to join the race for West Brom frontman Berahino to strengthen his options in attack.
Stoke, Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle are already interested in the 22-year-old, who is expected to leave the Baggies this month.
Spurs had FOUR bids for the player rejected on the final day of the summer transfer window, before a public row broke out between Albion supremo Jeremy Peace and the Londoners’ chairman, Daniel Levy.
Newcastle are also understood to have made an offer during the summer in the region of £17million, which is still on the table.
Chelsea considering Pato - but just on loan
Brazilian club Corinthians are trying to persuade Chelsea that Alexandre Pato is the answer to their striker problems.
The troubled 26-year-old has no future at his club and has been left out of the squad that travelled to the USA for pre-season this week.
Chelsea are examining a number of options with Diego Costa currently their only fully fit striker.
They have an interest in Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann but are likely to wait until the summer to pursue him, and even then could be hampered by the Rojiblancos’ transfer ban.
Corinthians value Pato at £11million and the former AC Milan frontman has been offered to a number of clubs.
He has had a number of injury problems, however, which have so far seen several other Premier League clubs - including Spurs and Manchester United - decide against signing him.
Should Chelsea throw him a lifeline it is likely that it would only be on a temporary basis.
Tiote agrees China move
Cheick Tiote is heading to China after agreeing an £8million move to Shanghai Shenhua.
The Chinese side have had an offer accepted by Newcastle, and agreed a three-year deal with midfielder Tiote.
The 29 year-old is due to travel to the Far East next week to undergo his medical and complete his transfer.
Toon boss Steve McClaren was keen to keep hold of Tiote, with second-bottom Newcastle in a battle to stay up.
But there was also an acceptance the deal is a good one for the club and the player, who will be paid around £70,000-a-week — £10k more than he’s on at the Magpies.
Real Madrid set for £250m spending spree?
After being hit with a transfer ban starting in the summer, Real Madrid are - according to the Sun - set to go on a £250million spending spree this month - and targets include Eden Hazard, David De Gea and Sergio Aguero.
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski are also on their hit-list.
Liverpool willing to sell youngster
Liverpool will listen to offers for their young striker Jerome Sinclair, whose contract is up at the end of the season.
The 19-year-old - who is the youngest ever player to appear for the Reds - has so far refused to sign a new deal, and can leave in the summer.
The Anfield club would be due a compensation fee then, but Watford lead the chase for the England U17 forward and are prepared to pay a fee now to take him in the January window.
There have also been offers from abroad, and his first club West Brom would also be interested, with the Reds thought to want a fee of around £3m.
But it's not all good news for Chelsea...
But Chelsea also know the ban - for transfer irregularities on young players - will have a massive impact on their own attempts to sign players.
Atletico were also fined £620,000 and Real got a £250,000 punishment with the ban coming in from the summer. Atletico have promised to appeal.
Chelsea have targeted Atletico star Antoine Griezmann and the Spanish club will be even more determined to keep him now.
Atletico are determined to tie down Griezmann to a new contract and have begun discussions on a two year extension to take him up to 2020 to fend off Chelsea.
They are also unlikely to want to do business on any of their other players with Atletico misfit Jackson Martinez on Chelsea’s radar this summer.
Chelsea striker Diego Costa , who has endured a troubled season, has also been linked with a return to Atletico but that window has now been shut.
That will be a huge blow to Chelsea as they look to wheel and deal in the market after a disastrous season.
Atletico ban gives Chelsea a boost
Roman Abramovich believes Chelsea ’s chances of landing top managerial targetDiego Simeone have received a massive boost.
Atletico Madrid have been hit with a transfer ban for the next two windows after they and Real Madrid were punished by FIFA.
That is likely to increase the chances of Atletico boss Simeone moving to the Premier League this summer if his hands are tied on transfers.
Simeone is Chelsea’s No1 choice to take charge this summer with Pep Guardiola lined up to move to Manchester City.
Morning all...
Well we’re pretty much exactly half way through the January transfer window and things are starting to gather pace.
Arsenal, Leicester and Liverpool have all made their first signings - while Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of snapping up former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato from Corinthians.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are still in the market for a striker and Tottenham, Newcastle, Crystal Palace and others are also still in the market for new players.
The Premeir League is also braced for offers from Spanish duo Real and Atletico Madrid. Both clubs have been hit with a two window transfer ban that starts in the summer. So, assuming their appeals don’t work, this is their last chance to buy and register players before summer 2017.
Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Man City’s Sergio Aguero and Man United’s David De Gea are all on Real’s list.
Join us here and we’ll bring you all the latest on these and other deals throughout the day.
